Update on Efforts to Improve Cell Phone Coverage in Grand Falls-Windsor
Posted on
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
To the residents of Grand Falls-Windsor,
We understand the frustration many of you face with poor cell phone reception in several key areas of our community, including Downtown, Scott Avenue, Harmsworth Drive, Grenfell Heights, the riverfront area, around Exploits Valley High, and on New Bay Road. These service gaps aren’t just inconvenient; they raise public safety concerns, especially during emergencies.
We want you to know that we’re actively working to address this issue. We’ve requested meetings with both Provincial and Federal representatives to discuss the urgency of improving cell phone coverage in our community.
Earlier this year, we reached out to residents to gather feedback on the specific areas where you’re experiencing problems. Using this information, we engaged with Bell to push for improvements.
We’re pleased to share that Bell has responded to our concerns. They’ve reviewed their coverage in the areas we identified, made antenna adjustments, and upgraded two towers in town for 5G service. Bell’s monitoring indicates that these upgrades have significantly improved capacity, and they continue to fine-tune the network to ensure optimal performance. These improvements may also benefit customers of other cell phone providers, as infrastructure is often shared between companies.
Bell has also informed us that Grand Falls-Windsor has been flagged as a priority in their 2025 network planning. However, we recognize that some residents may still be experiencing issues. If you’re a Bell customer and continue to face frequent service interruptions, you can reach out to Bell directly using one of the following methods:
- Dial 611 from your Bell cell phone
- Toll-free: 1-800-667-0123
- Online: Bell Mobility Support
We also encourage residents to keep us informed about ongoing issues. You can copy us (communications@townofgfw.com) on any emails you send to your cell phone provider so we can stay aware of the situation.
We remain committed to working with Bell and other telecom providers to ensure that all residents of Grand Falls-Windsor have reliable and consistent cell phone service. Thank you for your patience and continued input as we work towards a solution.
