Community Center
The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor is excited to share its preliminary plans for a new community center in Grand Falls-Windsor. This project aims to enhance recreational opportunities, foster healthy lifestyles, and support economic growth in our town. This project, however, is contingent upon securing substantial funding commitments from both the Provincial and Federal governments. With this support, the Town anticipates limiting its own contribution to a maximum of 25% of the total project cost.
If funded, this community center would help position Grand Falls-Windsor as a premier destination for tourism, sporting events, and large-scale gatherings.
Detailed conceptual plans are available below.
Preferred Location and Accessibility:
Council has selected this proposed location for its ideal position adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH), the Scott Avenue arterial access road, and a nearby TCH interchange, providing excellent visibility from the highway while remaining centralized for Grand Falls-Windsor residents. Final confirmation of this site’s viability will be determined in the preliminary design phase and after additional assessments are completed, including necessary geotechnical analysis.
Initial cost estimates (as of October 2024) include the following:
- Main Arena: $33,646,431.00
- Aqua & Fitness Center: $24,838,200.00
- Gymnasium & Multi-Purpose Rooms: $15,108,870.00
- Multi-Sport Arena: $9,763,491.00
Timeline Clarification:
The estimated timeline of approximately 74 months represents construction time alone and will only commence after all funding is secured and more detailed planning is completed. For example, if funding commitments are obtained by May 2025, the project would enter an estimated year of detailed design work, with construction beginning subsequently and lasting for the projected 74 months.
We invite your feedback, as it is vital to Council’s considerations and future planning. Please share your thoughts by December 31, 2024, either via our online form or by dropping off comments in person at the Town Hall.
Your participation will help shape this project to align with the community’s needs. The Town appreciates your engagement and looks forward to hearing from you.
