Municipal By-Election 2026

Thinking of running for Town Council?

Nominations take place on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 8:00 AM-8:00 PM at Town Hall (5 High Street).

Nominations are by appointment only – please call 709-489-0407 to make yours.

The qualifications of a candidate for election to council are as follows:

• Canadian citizen who is 18 years of age or older.
• Ordinarily resident in the municipality or area for at least 30 days prior to the date set for the commencement of the nomination period.
• Not in arrears of taxes or other charges payable to the municipality; and
• Not otherwise disqualified under the Municipal Elections Act.

By-Election:

• Tuesday, December 1, 2026, between 8:00 AM-8:00 PM
• You do not need to show any ID to vote, however we encourage you to bring a piece of ID along with you. If you have never voted in a municipal election in Grand Falls-Windsor before, you must sign an oath declaring your residency, but ID is not required for the oath. Only in the case that a scrutineer or candidate challenges your vote will you then have to show ID.

Advance Poll:

• Saturday, November 21, 2026, between 8:00 AM-8:00 PM
• The advance polling booth will be located at Windsor Pentecostal Church (King Street)
• You do not need to show any ID to vote, however we encourage you to bring a piece of ID along with you. Voting by Proxy:

• If you will be unavailable to vote in person on December 1, you can request a proxy application. A proxy is a person that can vote on your behalf in your absence. Please send your request for the application to proxy@townofgfw.com. Once approved you will be notified of further instructions on how to obtain your Proxy Certificate. Please note that proxy votes will not be accepted on Advanced Poll day.
