TOWN OF GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR ANNOUNCES NEW HOUSING INCENTIVE PROGRAMS
Posted on
July 17, 2024 (Grand Falls-Windsor) – The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor is excited to announce the launch of two new housing incentive programs designed to increase the availability of housing and promote sustainable urban development. The purpose of these programs is to attract both land developers and individual homeowners to contribute to the growth and livability of the community.
The Housing Incentive Program (HIP) aims to promote sustainable growth by encouraging homeowners to add secondary suites or dwellings to their properties and by incentivizing infill development. This program supports the creation of additional residential units such as apartments, basement apartments, multi-unit dwellings, and pending anticipated regulation changes in 2025, the creation of garden suites.
The Developer Incentive Program (DIP) is aimed at stimulating land development for new housing construction, with a particular focus on higher-density housing such as duplexes, triplexes, and quadplexes. This program offers financial incentives to help offset the costs of essential infrastructure, including roadways, water, sewer, and storm sewer systems.
More information about both programs is available at www.grandfallswindsor.com/housing.
“With increased activity in the mining and energy sectors, our community is poised for significant growth, and we must be prepared to meet the housing needs of both new residents and our seniors,” said Mayor Barry Manuel. “These incentive programs, along with our updated municipal plan and development regulations, will ensure Grand Falls-Windsor remains a vibrant and accommodating place to live.”
Anyone wishing to get involved in either program should contact the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor Public Works and Development Department at 709-489-0427, or email incentiveprogram@townofgfw.com.
The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor is in the central region of Newfoundland and Labrador and is home to approximately 13,800 residents. It is located along the banks of the Exploits River, settled within a serene valley atmosphere – a great place to live, work, and play. Its location also makes it a favourable place for doing business, and Grand Falls-Windsor is known as a major service centre for Central Newfoundland and a hub for most of the island.
