Short-Term Rental Regulations
Posted on
The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor adopted changes to the Development Regulations in November 2021 which states new requirements for Short-Term Rentals under Section 14.12. A copy of the Development Regulations can be found on the Town’s website at https://grandfallswindsor.com/town-hall/regulations/development-regulations-2022-2032.
Under these Regulations, Short-Term Rentals are now a Discretionary Use of Council; however, properties that are currently operating as a Short-Term Rental can continue without going through a Discretionary Notice provided all other conditions are met.
All Short-Term Rentals are now required to be a registered business with the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor by completing a Business Permit Application (found on our website at https://grandfallswindsor.com/business/permits) and submitting it to our Planning Technician via email to hbennett@townofgfw.com. Also required are inspections by our Building Inspector and Fire Inspector, which can be arranged by emailing permits@townofgfw.com. A breakdown of inspections required can be found on our website. Once these inspections are completed, the homeowner will be provided with a report outlining the conditions needed to meet our Regulations to continue operating as a Short-Term Rental. All requirements must be completed by December 31, 2023.
In addition, the Provincial Government has recently passed legislation on requirements for Short Term Rentals. Homeowners are required to ensure that these conditions are also met. Information on this can be found on the government website at https://www.gov.nl.ca/releases/2023/tcar/0404n04 and https://www.gov.nl.ca/tcar/tourism-division/registration.
