Grand Falls-Windsor, NL – The Grand Falls-Windsor Town Council continues its efforts to tackle concerns surrounding dangerous and nuisance driving behaviors involving ATVs, dirt bikes, and other off-road vehicles. Ongoing collaboration between the Town’s Municipal Enforcement team and the RCMP has led to significant progress, with recent enforcement actions resulting in vehicle inspections, confiscations, and penalties for reckless driving throughout the community.
Experience has shown that these dangerous behaviors involve a mix of youth, underage drivers, and adults. This blend of drivers raises serious safety concerns, and it is essential for adults to set a responsible example by adhering to traffic laws and driving safely. Furthermore, parents and guardians must remain aware of how and where their underage youth are using off-road vehicles.
These targeted enforcement efforts will continue in the coming weeks, as there has been a rise in instances of this behaviour and Council recognizes the need for greater action.
Council has been making efforts to combat this dangerous behavior for years, but it is important for the community to understand that enforcement efforts in this particular area present unique challenges.
The public have a role to play in helping address this issue. By reporting these incidents and providing detailed information, the Town can address this issue in the most effective way. The Town encourages all residents to report any dangerous or reckless driving behaviors they witness.
While the Municipal Enforcement team plays a vital role, dangerous driving incidents should be reported directly to the RCMP, who provide 24-hour service and have the ability to allocate resources based on community concerns.
It is not a time for complacency. Together as a community we share these serious concerns, and together as a community we can confront them assertively.
Thanks to all those who have provided information thus far, and Council commends the efforts of both the RCMP and Municipal Enforcement. Both authorities will continue to work in tandem to ensure the safety of all residents.
If you witness dangerous driving, please contact the RCMP at 911 immediately. For non-emergency concerns, Municipal Enforcement can be reached at 709-489-0411. Municipal Enforcement Officers are often out of the office working within the community, so please leave a message and someone will respond in a timely manner. Cooperation with the public is crucial in helping to make Grand Falls-Windsor safer for everyone.
