Barry was born and raised in Grand Falls-Windsor and has been a lifelong volunteer and community advocate. He graduated from St. Michael’s High School and went on to do a Business and Computer Studies Course at the College of the North Atlantic.
Barry was employed in several fields before taking a position as the Executive Director of the Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association, where he has remained for the past 23 years. The group has developed and continues to maintain a 22-kilometre trail system in the community used by all ages and abilities. The group also runs a Nature Camp for children during the summer months and other community events and programs. The popularity of the trail has exploded in recent years with literally hundreds of users daily, and the Association has added a new Nature Centre Facility for community use and a visitor centre for tourists.
Barry has four children: Ryan, Sarah, Bradley, and Alex, as well as two granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Lauren.
Barry has been on Council since 2013 and became Mayor in 2015. He has a great passion for his hometown and is excited and honoured to be in a position to help shape its future and make Grand Falls-Windsor the very best it can be.
As well as being the Logistics Chairperson for the 2005 Centennial Celebrations Committee, Barry was involved with the Cataracts Hockey Club for 12 years and held positions as VP, General Manager, Communications Director and Head Coach.
