Residential Smoke Advisory – Precautionary Advice
Posted on
With forecasted southerly winds for Thursday, August 11, 2022, Grand Falls-Windsor and surrounding areas could see significant smoky conditions due to the forest fires in the region.
If you are vulnerable to poor air quality and smoke, we recommend that you evacuate to your temporary safe accommodations or to the Provincial Government Evacuation Shelter in Deer Lake (Hodder Memorial Centre).
Residents are able to drive personal vehicles to the Shelter. For residents needing transportation, buses will be departing for the Provincial Government Evacuation Shelter at 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. Pick-up points are located at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium and the Windsor Stadium. Please arrive at a pick-up point an hour prior to departure.
Residents must pack responsibly and bring only essential items such as cash, prescription medications, eyeglasses, several changes of clothing, and personal items.
You are permitted to take your pet on the bus; however, the pet must be in a proper kennel/crate when you arrive and during transport. Once in Deer Lake, your pet will be transported to the pet shelter at the Deer Lake Fire Hall. Pets are not permitted at the Provincial Government Evacuation Centre.
ALL Town residents should be prepared to move within an hour in the event of an evacuation. We highly encourage residents to pack a “go bag”, prepare a personal evacuation plan, and continue to monitor the evolving situation.
If you require transportation to a pick-up point, please call 489-0400 to request.
